7 ways to become an open-minded person

When you think of open-mindedness, do you think of someone open to the opinions, beliefs, and actions of others? If so, you are partly right.

Mental and emotional rigidity is a more receptive and accepting of worldviews, beliefs, experiences, and cultural differences.

However, openness has another side. Open-minded people are open to new experiences, learning new things, and understanding different perspectives rather than just accepting them. As a result, open-minded people often enjoy a much more fulfilling life than those who are less open to new experiences, people, and ideas.

Unfortunately, being open-minded is not easy. After all, many of us grew up as children and lived among people with similar belief systems and values ​​as adults.

Also, we tend to stick to the same interests throughout our lives. Then there is also the fear of the unknown or inexperience, which is part of human nature. Despite all this, you can be a more extroverted person.

1. Learn to ask yourself

The next time you find yourself saying no to a new experience or telling yourself that there is no way to enjoy, believe, or understand anything, take a moment and ask yourself why. please give me.

2. Set a goal to experience at least one new thing each month.

For the most part, becoming more open-minded is an action-oriented endeavor.

Your possibilities are almost endless. If you don’t know where to start, here are some suggestions.

  • spend the day at the new radio station

3. Looking at Hot Button Problems from Another Perspective.

Remember, it doesn’t mean you open up and change it. It means learning to see the world from multiple angles and consider multiple possibilities.

Take a moment to think about some of the thorny issues. These are very important issues for you. They can be related to politics, religion, parenting style, or morality.

Bigoted people tend to see these issues in very binary terms. People are either right or wrong in their views, and those who are wrong are inferior to those who are morally or intellectually right.

Unfortunately, this attitude contributes little to understanding.

Also, it doesn’t expand your horizons. However, when we try to understand why people have different views on an issue, we often find that those views are not due to moral flaws or other character flaws.

Instead, they are just a product of one’s life experiences.

4. Allow yourself to be vulnerable.

There is no way to become more open-minded in your thought processes and actions without leaving yourself vulnerable.

Trying new things, reaching new people, and incorporating new ideas can lead to failure and disappointment. If you accept that and allow yourself to be vulnerable, you will soon find that things are still okay when things don’t go as planned.

Even better, you can get something positive out of your negative experience.

Remember that failures you may experience can also serve as a starting point for achieving your goals.

5. Expand your circle of friends.

Easier said than done, but very important. The larger your circle of friends, the more likely you are to be exposed to different ideas and belief systems. This is the key to becoming a more extroverted person.

Of course, you can’t force friendships, but you can take steps to strengthen them.

For example, you can join a club or start a new hobby.

Even something as simple as chatting with a colleague over lunch can make a difference.

6. Stop Assuming

Too many assumptions kill an open mind. If you find yourself saying things like this all the time:

  • I would never like it
  • I just have nothing to do with those people…
  • it’s not mine
  • I will never fit…
  • I feel unwelcome…
  • Everyone who lives like this…
First, recognize that you are doing it. Then make an effort to stop yourself and reformulate your assumptions.

Instead of assuming you don’t like something, repeat that you’re not sure you like something but would like to try it.

7. Learn to go with the flow.

Mental and emotional rigidity are two things that get in the way when trying to be more open-minded.

If you tell yourself not to try new things, or if you tell yourself that the results will be disastrous, you will remain narrow-minded. Relax more often and just let life happen.

You will find that breaking, or at least relaxing, some of the rules and restrictions you place in your life can do good things.

You will be happier if you let yourself live and live not only with others.
